Badal Sanctions Rs 300 Cr Proposal For Cancer Cure In Govt Medical Colleges

With the aim to offer the best cure and diagnostic facilities to the survivors of cancer crosswise Punjab, the CM Parkash Singh Badal has given sanction to a wide-ranging plan of around Rs. 300 crore to provide the government medical colleges Patiala, Amritsar, Faridkot in addition to cancer hospital at Bathinda with the top notch facilities.

A verdict to this effect was taken by the CM during a gathering with the top brass of the sections of state health & family welfare and medical education & Research at CM’s residence.

Repeating his firm pledge to eradicate the cancer from Punjab, Badal added that scarcity of funds would not be permit to obstruct Punjab’s task to offer the best available cure to the sufferers inflicted with cancer.

He further added, “None of any cancer patient would be deprived of the best medical care facilities in the state of penury and would be provided the best treatment at these hospitals equipped with the latest medical care, research and diagnostic facilities.”

The CM also gave nod for the employment of well trained and knowledgeable faculty in surgical oncology, Nuclear medicine, medical oncology and radiotherapy of these administrative medical colleges in addition to the setting up of the latest tools in sections of Radio diagnosis, Blood Transmission and Pathology to make sure the best cure and diagnostic facilities to the cancer victims.

He told the Principal Secretary Health & Family Welfare to bring a composite offer in this behalf for authorization in the upcoming Cabinet gathering slated to be take place on May 28.

Badal also proceed for direct staffing via a departmental selection group by taking out these positions from the preview of Punjab Public Service Commission led by Dr. KK Talwar and including Principal Secretary Medical Education & Research, Vice Chancellor BFUH Faridkot, Director PGI or his nominee, Director TMC or his nominee, Dr. Lalit Kumar, Prof. Medical Oncology, AIIMS New Delhi, Dr. DR Mittal, HOD Nuclear Medicine PGI Chandigarh, DRME besides a subject expert from the concerned specialty from AIIMS/PGI/TMC.

Emphasizing the requirement for training work force to prepare the health staff to treat the cancer patients in an efficient manner, Badal agreed to the plan considered by Principal Secretary Health to forward the necessary personnel at TATA Memorial Cancer Hospital Mumbai and PGIMER for training in the subsisting facilities in radiotherapy, surgical procedure, medication, pathology, gynecology for a period of 3 to 6 months at TMH.

The CM asked the heads of administrative medical college of Patiala and Amritsar to create a wide-ranging proposal for up gradation of medical tools and team to the 14th Finance Commission for seeking essential funds for this reason.  The Principal government medical college, Patiala explained Mr. Badal that he had already forwarded a thorough plan of Rs.165 crore for the upgradation of medical tools and infrastructure with an aim to make this high-status medical institution at par superiority with any of the nation’s best medical & research hospital.
