Boxers Injured In Trials At Patiala After New Regulation Comes Into Effect
Chief coach GS Sandhu stated that boxers have to become accustomed to life without helmet
Boxing is back to where it all commenced 3 decades ago. The substandard helmets are out, and Mohammed Ali-style aggression could be the fury yet again.
The first impact of International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) verdict to do away with helmet for the Olympics and the World Championships was felt by Indian boxers in Patiala where tests were carried out for forthcoming global events in Russia, Cyprus and Cuba.
The outcomes were devastating as Vijender Singh’s brother Balwinder Beniwal (69kg) had 3 stitches under his eyes, whilst one more boxer Jaydip required four near the similar area. Two other boxers, junior World Cup gold medallist Sunil Kumar and Praveen Mor, also had some injuries.
Chief coach GS Sandhu stated, “It was essential to become accustomed to the latest scoring method and life without helmets as speedily as possible.â€
It is thought that the new regulations could counteract Indian boxers as they lack aggression.
Indian boxers will confront their first real experiment at the World Championships in Almaty (Kazakhstan) from October 11-27 2013 where the regulation will come into force.
