Congress Trying To Make An Issue Of Nothing, Says Rakhra
Even though the Election Commission is devoted to free and fair zila parishad and panchayat samiti polls, the practice of serving alcoholic beverages to bag votes stays uncurbed.
The sale of alcoholic beverages on May 19 (Election Day) has been banished.
The state Election Commission has forwarded severe orders to make sure that alcoholic beverages are not served to voters secretly.
“Since 60% of the alcoholic beverages trade in Punjab is possessed and run by political leaders and their assistants, we cannot claim to place a full ban to the menace. But definitely we will keep a close watch,†he said.
In the meantime, the Congress said that the police officials and the government are putting pressure only on Congress followers.
“We have bagged various complaints from our supporters who say the authorized machinery is being utilizedd to annoy them,†said Congress MLA from Sanaur Laal Singh.
An excise functionary stated that the section would spare nobody. Cabinet Minister SS Rakhra claimed the Congress was making attempts to make an issue of nothing.
