Counterfeit Currency Seized
Rajpura (Patiala): Punjab Police officials have detained Rs. 5.4 lakh in fake currency long with West Bengal man in connection with the seizure.
The high-class fakes – which even contained watermarks, thread as well as safety signals, which are utilized to differentiate between genuine and false currency notes – got seized accompanying an intelligence input.
While talking to press persons, senior superintendent of police (SSP) HS Mann stated that the police suspected that the counterfeit currency was destined for funding radical activities in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police officials have detained Wes Abdul Mehmood, an occupant of WB, who was tranferring the fake currency from Bangladesh to Kashmir through Kolkata, New Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
But, Mehmood’s partner in crime, Akram Hussain, managed to run away.
Police guess the role of Pakistan’s ISI in the importation of the fakes. “It’s almost like genuine currency. All the water marks, thread and even security signs are printed,†the SSP stated.
The seizure consists of 410 currency notes of Rs 1,000 and 300 notes of Rs 500. The SSP added up that the notes appeared to have been printed making use of an ultramodern machine. “It cannot be purchased by a small-time smuggler.â€
The SSP added that the police had alarmed safety and intelligence firms regarding the development. During the beginning inquiry, the charged had stated that he had purchased this money at R30,000 for a bundle of Rs. 1 lakh in fake money. He allegedly utilized to charge R40,000 for making its delivery.
The SSP also said that a case had been lodged at Shambu police station.
