Diagnostic & Cure Centres To Be Set Up At Govt Medical Colleges In Patiala, Amritsar
To lift up funds in order to create infrastructure for the cure of cancer sufferers and drug addicts, a conference got arranged here under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Sources stated that all administrative and semi-administrative organisations, improvement trusts, panchayati raj institutions, MCs would have to contribute around 2% of their income from the bidding of their unmovable properties and empty land to the Punjab State Cancer and Drug Addition Treatment Infrastructure Fund. The administration is anticipating a yearly share of Rs 25 crore to the fund. The management of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, is giving expertness and practice to establish the infrastructure.
In addition, all societies and trusts established by the administration will contribute around 2% of their financial gain twice in a year. All public sector undertakings, apex cooperative establishments, local bodies, improvement trusts and panchayati raj institutions will pay 2% from their financial aid. Certain share will be given to the fund from the income of tenders floated for projects worth Rs 50 crore or above. In addition, Rs 50 crore would go to the fund from extra tax levied on cigarettes etc.
For establishing diagnostic and cure centres at Government Medical College, Patiala, and Government Medical College, Amritsar, an elaborated plan has been fowarded by the Department of Medical Education and Research. In all, around Rs 180 crore will be necessitated to establish radiotherapy and radio diagnosis sections in both the medical colleges.
Chunni Lal Bhagat, Minister for Medical Education and Research, stated drug de-addiction centres would be established at the medical colleges in Amritsar, Patiala, Faridkot, Bathinda and Jalandhar. He added that Rs 5 crore would be disbursed at each centre.
