Expired Medicines Find Their Way Into Patiala’s Govt. Medical College

A case of purchase of expired drugs by Patiala’s Govt. Medical College has been disclosed. A few of these medications have already expired whereas others are in close proximity to ending date.

Govt. Medical College’s management bought these medications for around Rs 45 lakh under Punjab administration’s plan to offer medicines to patients without charging any cost.

A few of these expired medications found their way into the dispensary from where the patients get the medicines. The medical superintendent of the hospital Dr. V.K. Sharda said that he was unaware of how these medicines ended up at the hospital dispensary when his office hasn’t released the drugs which were purchased under the scheme.

The board that manages acquisition of medications comprises the medical superintendent, 2 of the staffers of medical superintendent’s section and the store head.

A medical trader stated that some firms deny taking back the medications that are near expiration. So, the store possessors with the intention to clear the subsisting stock sell off these drugs at economical rates.

Bhagat Chunni Lal, the medical education minister, stated that this is a grave issue and a departmental investigation will be made. Any person found responsible will not be out of danger.
