NCC To Be Revamped: Lt Gen PS Bhalla

Lt Gen PS Bhalla, National Cadet Corps (NCC) director general, on May 21 stated that the NCC necessitated to be refurbished with the aim to strengthen the curiosity of present day’s youngsters.

“It cannot work any longer on the lines established during the year 1970,” Lt Gen Bhalla added on his first visit to Patiala.

Bhalla, while talking to people during a seminar at the Army Public School stated that the training viewpoint of the association had to be altered, as thus far, the junior (13-18 age) and senior (18-26 age) divisions were being educated the similar program.

Bhalla inquired how a teenager and a grown person could be trained on the similar lines as both deviated in requirements and interpreting levels.

The DG added that both males and females were identical in the armed forces, as over and over again female cadets had tested their physical and mental aptitude.

He added that in the year 2012, out of the 7 females who made it to the Mt Everest, 4 were NCC (National Cadet Corps) cadets. He stated that there was a requirement to bring a transformation in the course outline of the 3 arms comprising Air Force, Army and Navy — as the current one was tough and service- pointed.

He also said that the NCC no longer would be a co-curricular activity in the educational institution as it would be made an additional subject in classes 9 and 10 and an optional subject in courses eleventh and twelfth.

At the college level, this year, 30 independent universities will offer NCC as an optional subject and would revise the outcome of its execution.

On the issue of non-issuance of uniforms to cadets for 2 years, the DG added that by June 2013, dresses and shoes together with workout suits would be provided to cadets.

He said that by June 2013, a national-level seminar would be held in the national capital where the human resource development head would discuss the alterations to be executed in the NCC rules.
