Pak Convict Discharged From Hospital

A Pakistani criminal, convicted in the Kandhar hijacking case and going through from renal trouble, was taken to a city hospital in a serious state.

Mohammad Rashid, lodged in a prison in Patiala, was admitted to the local Rajindra Hospital on May 04 night after his condition worsened, prison functionaries stated.

After cure, Mohammad Rashid, who was carefully checked by the physicians, was sent back to prison medical superintendent Vijay Shardha stated.

“We have carried out examinations, comprising ultrasound, on Rashid and all reports are ok,” he stated, adding the convict was suffering from some gastro-intestinal trouble.

Previously, Rashid, who was brought to Patiala from Amritsar a few months back for cure of his renal trouble, was taken to the prison hospital for a few days.

He along with two other Pakistani convicts, also lodged in the Patiala central prison, were segregated from fellow Indian prisoners after the demise of Sarabjit Singh in Lahore.

The Punjab administration has also shifted 2 Pakistani convicts from Nabha maximum-security prison here to Ferozepur because of protection reasons. Irfan Ullah, serving 16 years in prison in 3 terror cases, and Shahid Iqrar Bhatti were shifted on May 03.

After Sarabjit’s demise, safety of Pakistani convicts has been strengthened in Punjab and the prison authorities have been asked to put them in independent cells.
