Patiala Central Jail Supt Bhupinder Singh Virk Pulled Up
Accompanying reports of VIP care to a Chartered Accountant detained in a bribery case, Additional DGP (Jails) RP Meena has forwarded a note to the Patiala Central Jail Superintendent Bhupinder Singh Virk.
Additional DGP stated, “I will not allow any such system inside the prison. Regulations apply to all prisoners.â€
The Chartered Accountant was held by the CBI on April 4 for accepting a bribe of Rs 6 lakh from the complainant.
Sources added that at the insistence of political leaders, the prison faculty transferred the charged to the prison hospital from the barracks, where convicts are lodged.
Prisoners can only meet their relatives and pals on 2 fixed days of the week, however the charged was allegedly permitted to meet his relative anytime.
Additional DGP (Jails) told the media that no inmate could be given preferential care as it caused bitterness among the other prisoners and could lead to problem.
Virk refused that any VIP care was lengthened to the charged, stating, “His wife was here for the initial 2 days but afterward was told to come only on the designated days. We have charged him in the hospital room as the barracks are overcrowded.†DS Bains, Principal Secretary, Home, said he will take strict action against the culprits. “No one can be given any VIP facilities inside the jail. I will not let it continue.â€
