Patiala Police All Set To Help Addicts Quit Drugs
The Patiala police will commence a Monitoring Programme (MP) by the coming month to assist addicts give up drugs.
Under the Monitoring Programme project, the Patiala police will work with a local nongovernmental organization to discover drug addicts and send them for regular counseling as well as cure. The state administration will supervise the project and, if advantageous, carry out it all through Punjab.
Under the MP project, the police officials will identify addicts held with illegal materials for self ingestion and those who have just started making use of these deadly products.
“Once out on bail, these addicts will have to attend the de-addiction programme at one of the various de-addiction centers across the district,†the police officials added.
The police officials are making attempts to rope in several nongovernmental organizations to mentally prepare these drug users for de-addiction cure. The addicts’ parents and family members will be summoned and advised by these nongovernmental organizations on the de-addiction regime.
The local Station House Officer will be delegated to keep a semimonthly record of drug users. “Those found responding to the treatment will be provided all possible help,†stated a senior police functionary.
Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Gupreet Singh Gill stated that they had delineated a brief outline of the vital project. “We will tie up with the local government de-addiction centre at the initial stage and seek the assistance of nongovernmental organizations afterward,†Gill said.
