Punjabi University Not Able To Distribute Pension
Financial disaster appears to have hit Patiala based Punjabi University as hoards of its ex staffers (teaching as well as non-teaching) are yet to receive their pension for the last month.
University functionaries stated that the retirement fund has been postponed as they have used up the amount marked for the purpose because of an increase in the monthly retirement fund after execution of the 5th as well as the 6th Pay Commission. They stated that they have now made a temporary arrangement to give out the retirement fund.
But, the pensionaries claim whilst the university is spending hefty amounts on the constructing novel structures, they are being brushed aside.
In the meantime, Punjabi University has not been forwarding the grand provident fund payments in the accounts of its working staff since October last year.
The staff, under the banner of the Punjabi University Teachers Coordination group, recently forwarded a note to the Vice Chancellor.
Though Punjabi University has now made two payments, the payment for 6 month period is still pending.
Registrar Dr AS Chawla stated that Punjabi University was exercising modalities and was expected to liberate the pension in a period of seven days.
“From 2013, we have effected an alteration in our bookkeeping system. We have outsourced the work to make it completely computerized. At the present, we are almost through with this work,” he said.
Dr AS Chawla claimed the trouble stood up since Punjabi University generated insignificant income in May every year.
“Now, with the admissions for engineering set to start by june, we will be in an easy position. We will forward the remaining GPF payments by June 2013,” Dr AS Chawla also said.
They should give pensions in time
