Synthetic Drugs Making Entry Into Region

The retrieval of 10.5 kilogram (kg) of mescaline from Simranjit Kaur and her family members near the Urban Estate, Patiala, on May 5 has sent the state Police officials in panic.

Highly placed sources in the segment said leads to mark out the possible cause of the drug supply chain was expected to conclude in the state of Rajasthan, which was home to a wide range of the cacti family (peyote), the key source for making the alcoholic beverage.

Charged Simranjit Kaur’s pal and nephew are already in prison under the NDPS Act.

Mescaline is costlier than morphine and drugs made from opium that will cost between Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,600 per gram. Mescaline costs around Rs 2,000 per gm.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, Hardayal Mann, stated, “Noticing a certain difference in the texture of the drug recovered fron near the Urban Estate, we went in for chemical analysis. Tests confirmed the powder was mescaline.”

Mr. Hardayal stated that it was too untimely to speak anything about the supply chain.

“Our group is accompanying all links, comprising those outside the state.”

A senior officer stated that the authorities were alert that high returns were tempting police persons into the drug operation. “We are working on certain significant leads.”
