Thapar University Eyes For 100% Placement

Thapar University has happily showed placement for the year 2011-12 with expectation to touch 100% mark. With 164 corporate houses taking in record 936 students of various fields  from MBA,  Master of Commputer Application(MCA), bachelor of Engineering (BE), M.SC and Master of Eingineering (ME) that also before they pass out. Interestingly 181 of the 936 students have been offered double and some even triple placements. From the next semester year 2012-13 652 from various disciplines of engineering including ME, MBA and MCA have been chosen by 103 organizations.

“To make sure this speed of placements, the well known university has functioned too hard. In order to offer the pupils practical knowledge of the subject, training programmes with combined management from Thapar University and the business are carried out,” stated Dr. KK Raina, Director, Thapar University.

Acting as an interface between the Institute and the Industry, Center for Industrial Liasion and Placement (Clip) is the dedicated placement center for the university. The work of the body is to maintain a data base of the organizations. Understand their needs and organize campus placement that facilitates both the employer and the convenience of the students.

Thapar University also believes that the industry plays a vital role hence upgrades the course curriculum bringing in par with the industry demands. Members of the Thapar University belong to various corporate houses and are part of senate and bodies of the industry, which is why the university changes its curriculum every 4 years to the demand of the current industry requirements. The various learning programmes are designed keeping the need of the industry’s current and future needs.

As Thapar Universiry believes in students working closely with the industry to gain in-depth knowledge, the university organizes joint research programmes with the industry that benefit both the students and the industry.

Facilitating the university as a research partner and having tie-ups with PepsiCo Holding India Pvt Ltd, Mc Cain Foods, Ballarpur Industries Limited via its body CORE(Center of Relevance and Excellence).

Short term training courses are also conducted for Industries personnel designed for the academia and demand of the Industry.

“We wish our pupils to be industry heads and for attaining this, we keep making plans for some or the other proposal to make sure that our pupils are job ready and meet market and job prospects,” added up Dr. Raina.

The university also provides consultation for various research projects relating to mechanical engineering, structural designing etc. In order to update the students on the changes of the industry workshops are also held with the corporate.

To enhance communication skills a course has been started with Toastmaster. This will be compulsory for all students and will focus on developing communication and leadership skills.

“It is vital that pupils are fully prepared and capable for service,” added Dr Raina.

Also as part of course curriculum needed training will be provided to hone the skills of the students. The course will help in the students behavioue, presentation and decorum.
