Vijender Is Innocent – Ministry

Vijender Singh can breathe easy as the out-of-competition examination carried out on the boxer for prohibited materials has turned out to be negative that will hopefully clear his name from the so-called utilization of heroin.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports stated that it was “joyful to declare that on the basis of these examinations none of the boxers were discovered to have utilized any prohibited substances in the recent past”.

Vijender Is Innocent - Ministry

Singh, together with 4 others, was subjected to an out-of-competition investigation for prohibited substances on April 3 after the ministry asked the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) to conduct test on him following reports in the media that he, along with his sparring partner Ram Singh, had been making use of recreational drug heroin that comes among banished substances during in-competition examinations. Following the ministry’s fiat, NADA conducted a “full menu test” on Vijender and others that comprised examination for psychotropic substances, though examinations were only conducted on blood and urine samples, and not on hair samples.

Vijender was not there for his remarks.

Ever since SIngh’s name came out in the multi-crore drug scandal in the state of Punjab accompanying the recovery of his wife’s car outside a residence in Zirakpur from where the drugs got detected, the boxer had been under pressure. The reports of NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon and Vijender’s sparring associate Ram Singh, entailing Vijender, put further weight on him.

But, SIngh had maintained that he was blameless. Though he denied giving his blood samples to the Punjab Police, he decided to give these to NADA.

In addition, Vijender failed to make it to the Indian contingent, which would contend in Cyprus and Cuba in the coming days.
