Women’s Wrestling Tests At Patiala
The selection board of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) would convene at NIS Patiala today to see selection trials for the women’s group that will symbolize the nation in the 2013 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship in the national capital.
The 2013 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship will start from April 18 to April 22. As per Wrestling Federation of India sources, a 7-member women’s team will be selected in the selection tests from 9 am today.
The selection group consisted of WFI president and Member Parliament Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, secretary Raj Singh, Treasurer Prem Nath and joint secretary Darshan Lal, Naresh Kumar and Rajinder Singh.
All top female wrestlers, consisting of Olympian Geeta Phogat, will compete for the berth in the Indian group for the national capital Asian Wrestling to be formed at KD Jadhav Wrestling Stadium in New Delhi.
The men’s group had been already picked out at SAI Northern Training Centre in Sonepat on March 21.
Sturdy candidates Iran, India, Japan, Korea, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia are amongst the nations that will stake their claims for the top honors.
Over 20 nations are likely to be included in this version of the Asian Championship. Strong wrestling nations like Iran that won the last year’s continental title in both, Freestyle as well as Greco Roman together with Japan, Korea, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia have already affirmed their entries for the occasion.
