“There are many teachers in the college who are teaching subjects other than their specialisation and the government has approved them. For the betterment of the college and the hospital, the government should implement the CCIM norms in totality,” he said.
Dr Pardeep Kapil, college principal, stated that they would shortly hire 8 teachers with the intention that the college qualified for fresh admissions. He added that they had already taken the interviews and the administration would shortly make the appointments.

People in large numbers together with the head of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Kundan Gogia staged a protest at in Patiala on April 21 demanding justice for the five-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a neighbour in the national capital.
The protestors demanded harsh punishment for the charged.
Patiala residents and other people raised slogans against the government for the heinous crime.
The protest was accompanied by a candle light march, which started from Baradari Gardens and stopped at Sheran Wala Gate.
Protestors also offered prayed for the girl’s well being and long life.
The protesters also said that they will hold protest in front of Powercom office due to insignificant increase in the electricity rates.

Two females have been arrested for drug peddling and 45 kg of opium worth more than Rs.27 lakh has been seized from them, police said.
In the first case, Police Station, Bakshiwal arrested a female carrying 25 kg of opium whilst in the second case, Tripuri police arrested a female. who is the resident of village Samudargarh Channa. With 20 kg of opium.
The police have lodged a case again both the females.
Further probe has also been started.

Patiala: Working to fund the education of underprivileged and deprived females, Dr Harsh Charitable Trust, in 2013 has chosen forty pupils from Punjab to receive this assistance.
On April 21, the parents of these female who had reached from remotely regions in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, and Jagraon areas got sponsorship cheques for their kids from trust president Dr Harshinder Kaur. Together with her hubby, Dr Gurpal Singh, Dr Harshinder had been battling the menace of female aborticide in the state.
“During our job in the medical field, we observed that parents did not invested in the education of girls owing to scarcity and non-productivity,” Dr Harshinder stated.
“Underprivileged parents, though, make their best attempt to teach their sons in private schools, whilst they send females to the administrative schools, where basic infrastructure was not up to the mark,†she added.
The trust created in the year 2008 gets contribution from some expatriates and local physicians.
“The monthly tuition fee of the girls we select for sponsorship is sent to the schools concerned,” said Dr Harshinder Kaur.
“The girls chosen have no family land or means of regular income. Either or father is no more or single parent is bringing them up. With the limited resources at our command, we are able to sponsor their education till Class 10 alone.â€
The trust, thus far, has put 328 females in school, out of which 180 completed their matric in 2013.

Mr. Mangal Singh Sandhu, Director, State Agriculture Department stated, “After the triumph of four Kisan Huts in the cities of Patiala, Nabha, Ropar and Nurpur Bedi, we are in the process of setting up these huts in all other regions of Punjab. A thorough project report has been forwarded to the sections concerned for authorization.â€

With a D-Pharmacy degree, the medicine sellers are also selling illegal drugs to the people and putting their lives in danger.
After seeing all these illegal games, the health department has not taken any action thus far.
As per the rules, the pharmaceutics are allowed to give medications only after seeing the doctor’s prescription, but, in the city of Rajpura, illegal games are going on.
The report added that the druggists are also checking patients in their so-called clinics made within the shops. Moreover, they are also making profits by looting innocent people by giving wrong treatment to them.
The report also said that some big personalities are also supporting these druggists.
As per civil surgeon, Dr. Varinder Sohi, they have been receiving complaints against these ongoing illegalities.
He added that if any person has any proof against the druggist, then he/she may report us.

In an irony of sorts, Akali staffers and Punjab Police employees were seen clashing with unemployed linemen and their families outside the residence of Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra, Minister for Rural Development & Panchayat.
Due to the protest by unemployed linemen and their family members, the Nabha-Patiala road got jammed for a period of 4 hours continuously,
Members belonging to the Unemployed Linemen Association began lifting slogans against the Punjab ministers.
“Creating traffic jams, stopping buses and sitting on dharnas with the aim to get your demands fulfilled is not necessary. The demands of these linemen are not authentic. A number of them are very old and cannot even walk, let alone climb the electric poles to work as linemen,” a representative added.
It may be recalled that Punjab administration had advertised 5,000 positions of linemen during January 2011, however only 1,000 males got nominated.
“On February this year, the court stated that there is no ban on staffing, but still appointment letters are not being forwarded,” said the union head.

Patiala: A special CBI court on, April 20, sent SAD head along with 21 others, comprising 3 FCI functionaries to jail for a period of 7 years.
As per reports, all of them were sent to jail following a fraud case.
The Special Judge Hemant Gopal held a ex SAD MLA Mangat Rai Bansal and others 21 responsible of making forbidden gains by delivering poor quality rice, leading to loss to the Food Corporation of India to around Rs 1.8 crore.
The CBI had lodged the chargesheet against total 28 people comprising 3 Food Corporation of India (FCI) functionaries and 25 rice millers (including Bansal) in the year 2001 and booked all the charged under sections 120 (B), 420 IPC and sections 13(1), 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
As per reports, 2 charged have died sooner or later whereas 2 got acquitted and two were given 2 years jail sentence.
3 FCI functionaries comprising P N Aggarwal, M S Tomar, and J R Monga, functioning as quality control supporter had authorized the poor quality rice from millers.
They got fired by Food Corporation of India, after lodging of FIR against them.
The case against Mangat Rai l and 21 others got filed in the year 1998, when in a raid carried out by Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Department, the functionaries detected “poor quality” rice being provided to Food Corporation of India by few millers of Bareta in Mansa region.
A public interest litigation (PIL) got registered in Punjab and Haryana High Court by a Bareta agriculturist, asking for a CBI probe into the misappropriation done by a segment of millers that the High Court admitted and asked for CBI enquiry on September 23, 1999.

As per reports, the Patiala police officials have detained 185 small and big drug smugglers as well as traffickers during the last 17 days and got 37 punished.
The director general of police made declaration about this anti-drug operation on April 1.
Mr. Paramjit Singh Gill, inspector general of police in the range that covers Patiala, Sangrur, Mohali, Barnala, Nawanshahr and Rupnagar regions stated, “The plan is to break the peddlers’ delivery string by spreading our groups in every police region.”

The police officials have exposed the drug-supply chain only in part.
“Drugs can be handed over at doorstep on just a phone call, so it is hard to catch all traders,” added the IGP, “as they keep moving door to door to supply drugs.”
Gill has assigned the senior superintendent of police to make sure speedy examination and maximum certainty in cases lodged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
“In just a period of 20 days of the said drive, 37 drugs peddlers have been punished, 18 of them in the city of Patiala,” Gill added.
The major hauls, up till now, have been 18 kg opium, 17 qunital poppy husk, 718 gram smack, 1 kiligram heroin, 80,000 drug capsules, and 12 litres of chemical raw material for heroin.

As per recent reports, Pawan Kumar Singla of Tafzalpura, photojournalist on a Hindi daily, is accused with blackmailing physicians working in administrative hospitals.
A case of extortion, threatening to slaughter and attempting to commit offences punishable with life imprisonment or other prison terms was on Friday lodged against him here.
Dr Gurpal Sachdeva of Rajindra Medical College and Hospital had registered a complaint that on April 6, Singla had telephoned his wife, also a government physician, and attempted to blackmail her by threatening to reveal her private practice.
He threatened her with awful consequences if the duo didn’t bribe him, Dr Sachdeva has said.
He had even threatened to publish a malicious news item against the medical doctor, the report stated.
The police went through Pawan’s cell phone record before lodging the first-information report (FIR) and commencing a manhunt for him.

As per reports, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji got burnt at Sikh priest Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwala’s gurdwara at his native village Dhadrian, after a fire erupted on Wednesday. The sacred book got burnt after the fire engulfed the holy place because of short circuit.
As the Gurdwara has a lot of wood work, the fire spread speedily and resulted into a hefty loss to the interiors of the edifice.
The villagers, after getting to know regarding the blaze at the Gurdwara, gathered up in large numbers and controlled the fire.
The Gurdwara is located in the property that belongs to Ranjit Singh’s family. Administrative and police functionaries also reached the spot and supervised the rescue processes.
Sangrur SP Sharanjit Singh refusing any foul play behind the blaze and stated “the fire broke out because of short circuit and two sacred books got burnt in the fire aside from damage to other possessions of the religious place”.
Ranjit Singh has constructed another Gurdwara called ‘parmeshar dwar’ next to Patiala on Sangrur-Patiala highway and a large number of followers throng the Gurudwara.

Following cases being registered in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the postponement in filling vacant positions of reserved category clerks and peons, Punjabi University, Patiala, has given a task in the court that they will clear the backlog by September this year.
Punjabi University Registrar Dr AS Chawla stated that the university had already started the procedure and based on the backlog, would shortly publicize these empty positions.
The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission had also addressed Punjabi University few days back to fill up the backlog of Scheduled Caste (SC) posts by the next 6 months.
The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission had also directed the university not to charge the SC pupils, studying in colleges connected with the university beneath the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme, any charge.

A speeding Zen car attempted to run over two cops on duty before hitting another vehicle in close proximity to Leela Bhawan Chowk late last night.
The police officials have keyed out the Zen car and making attempts to trace it. A police group afterward chased the Zen car in a Gypsy but the wrongdoer gave it the slip.
Witnesses stated that the speeding Zen car jumped the red light and attempted to crush the cops after they tried to pull it over.
“The car afterward hit another vehicle while attempting to evade the police group on pursuit,†an eyewitness added.
Patiala SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill stated that they had keyed out the vehicle and would take stringent action against the offender.

Verka ordered the registration of an FIR against the doctor for allegedly making casteist remarks against the student.
“Enough is enough. Every day, there is a video showing policemen beating someone or not bothering to register cases despite evidence. Law and order in Punjab is deteriorating. SCs and Scheduled Tribes (STs) are mostly at the receiving end. For this, the custodian of law and order is responsible, so I have decided to summon the ADGP (law and order),” said Verka.
He said the commission had thus far obtained almost 10,000 complaints from the state in the last 2 years or so, mostly linked to the police department.
In the meantime, the commission, after taping reports of a variety of parties and getting the investigatory report from the medical college principal, has placed order to the Patiala SSP to lodge an FIR against Dr Harsimran Singh, assistant professor, ophthalmology, for supposedly making casteist remarks against a pupil, Anmolpreet, in the classroom.
“I have also asked the SSP form a squad led by at least a DSP-rank officer and forward the action-taken report within a period of 7 days,” added Verka.
The report of the college’s 3-member investigation group has detected Dr Harsimran blameworthy of utilizing foul language in the classroom and talking against the SC proviso arrangement.
‘One-sided investigation’
The Punjab entity of the All India Equality Forum of Government Medical/Dental Colleges has called Verka’s investigation biased.
“We are not happy with the query into the so-called incident. Neither the physician nor his witnesses have been offered the chance to give their report,” read the PR forarded by Dr Gurmeet Singh Bhagowalia, president of the unit.
