Hoards of shopkeepers under the banner of Patiala Vyopar Bachao Sangarsh board staged a protest against the administration verdict to bring in property tax.
Calling it a ‘black act’ for the dealers, the demonstrators showed off black flags and took out a scooter rally crosswise the key avenues of the city.
While talking to the gathering, Rakesh Gupta stated that they would not permit the state administration to execute the projected tax come what may, as it would destroy them.

Second time councilor Amaninder Singh Bajaj has been named as the new mayor of the royal city, Patiala.
In the gathering of councilors carried out Tuesday, the selection for the 34-year-old SAD chief was conducted in the company of Sikander Singh Maluka, SAD in charge for Patiala, and rural development minister Surjit Singh Rakhra.
Amaninder Singh Bajaj, the son of Patiala region SAD president Indermohan Singh Bajaj, has become fourth mayor of the Patiala municipal corporation.

The police officials have filed a case against a Bahadurgarh occupant for torturing his 6-year-old son with butts and inflicting wounds on his body with a blade.
The disturbing story of pain was recited by the kid himself in a local court, where he was taken during the hearing of separation case of his parents.
Depressed over witnessing wound marks on the kid’s body, the court asked the police officials to get the kid medically checked in the local Government Rajindra Hospital.
After checkup, the kid got admitted there for proper treatment.
Discovering himself in a tense spot, Baljit Singh, kid’s father, cut and run from the court premises.
Baljit was having the guardianship of kid during the divorce period.
The boy told the presspersons and physicians that his father regularly pour hot tea on him, blistered him with butts and make cuts on his body.
There were around sixteen cut marks on the kid’s body.
Baljit Singh got upset over kid’s demand to meet his mom.
In the meantime, Patiala Sadar Police Station have reserved Baljit Singh under sections 323, 324 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and set up a manhunt to arrest him.

The selection board of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) would convene at NIS Patiala today to see selection trials for the women’s group that will symbolize the nation in the 2013 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship in the national capital.
The 2013 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship will start from April 18 to April 22. As per Wrestling Federation of India sources, a 7-member women’s team will be selected in the selection tests from 9 am today.

ROPAR: Unexpected and needless spending, tax avoidance and bribery are the main cause of deprived economic health of the state of Punjab.

Dr. S. S. Johal stated that the administration was making expenditures on diverse needless things without any precise planning. Mentioning the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries in this regard he stated that according to regulation, the number of ministers in the Cabinet had been fixed.
But, the state administration had made the appointment of a large number of Chief Parliamentary Secretaries that not only overcomes the purpose of law but also put gigantic financial load on the administration.
He added that tax avoidance was occurring in Punjab and government agencies were not taking efficient steps to check such tax evasion. In contrast, some functionaries themselves encourage tax evasion for their own conditions.
He also stated that the state could turn out to be a chief state if tax avoidance, unexpected expenditures and bribery could be controlled.
Dr. S. S. Johal also opposed the discretionary grants quota for the minister. He also advocated the establishment of a self-regulating university in every town.
Dr. Johal stated that there was injustice in education structure. “The kids of rustic regions are not acquiring appropriate education chances and facilities as against urban regions.
“In the same way, there is also a large gap of education criterion and facilities between administration and Public schools,” Johal added that all the kids should have level playing turf for education.
Dr. Johal stated that the administration should discontinue double speak over the alcoholic beverages.
Dr. Johal also spoke up that there should be one university in each town adding that there must not be any college affiliation scheme and each institution should be permitted to stand on its own norms so that they could prove themselves.

Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Ravinderpal Mangat was beaten up to death by drivers of a truck in the city of Patiala.
As per sources, the incident occurred when the police officer attempted to clear a path for VIP movement.
This resulted into an argument with the truck holders who then supposedly hit him to death.
Ravinderpal Mangat lost consciousness after the driver of the truck allegedly beat him with an iron stick, police officials added.
Mangat was taken to a hospital where physicians announced him brought lifeless.
The driver of the truck has been in detention.
A probe is on to find out the conditions resulting in the policeman’s demise.
Reports added that that the truck driver was fully drunk.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was set up to probe the recent slaughter of Patiala’s ex mayor Jaspal Pradhan’s daughter-in-law, Parampreet Kaur, on March 30 has given a clean chit to him in the case.
The Special Investigation Team lodged the chargesheet in the court of Judicial Magistrate (Ist class) in the city in which it forwarded clean chit to the Jaspal in slaughter case owing to “conditional proofs”, authorized sources stated.
In the chargesheet, the Special Investigation Team has also dropped slaughter charges against Parampreet Kaur’s mother-in-law Paramjeet Kaur and her hubby Harpreet Singh.
Now Paramjeet Kaur and Harpreet Singh would confront charges beneath sec 306 IPC (Abetment to suicide), the sources added up.
The 29-year-old Parampreet Kaur died out in puzzlingly conditions on February 23, 2013 at her in-laws house.
Afterward, the Patiala Police had lodged a case against the three under the applicable fragments of IPC on the basis of a declaration by Amarjeet Singh, Parampreet Kaur’s father.

Sources added that the Shiromani Akali Dal High Command is influenced that Pardhan has no role in Parampreet’s slaughter, however the party does not wish to court another debate by re-electing him, as the case is still awaiting in Punjab and Haryana High Court after Parampreet’s father lodged an appeal seeking CBI investigation into the murder.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the Parampreet Kaur slaughter case in which Patiala’s ex mayor Jaspal Singh Pradhan has also been charged, came across to the city and gathered info from the dead’s family.

The report Balwant Singh Rajoana transferred to the national capital’s Tihar Jail, has been declared as ‘unjustified’ by the Punjab jail’s section on Friday.
In a report issued here, Bhupinderjit Singh Virj, superintendent, central jail, Patiala, said no to the hearsays spreading about Rajoana, stating that he was securely lodged in the Patiala prison.
In a signed report, Bhupinderjit Singh cleared up that Balwant Singh was lodged in the Patiala prison, and admonished ill-behaved factors against spreading hearsays about his hanging or relocation to the other prison
Singh added that the state administration would act sturdily against anyone disseminating the hearsays.
Previously, during the first week of the existing month, the Punjab Police had clarified regarding such hearsays.

The state of Punjab is ready to hit a new milestone in wheat procurement as the state administration would commence the largest ever procurement processes in the state by the coming month (April 2013).
On Tuesday, Mr. Adaish Partap Singh Kairon, Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Punjab in cooperation with Mr. Rakesh Singh, Chief Secretary, Punjab evaluated the procurement methods of wheat crop in the well known state, in a upper-level conference with the managing directors of all procurement firms.
Providing the elements of arrangements made for Rabi selling period, an official spokesperson stated that the Punjab administration today gave notice to 1770 mandis and buying centers for the procurement of wheat in Punjab.
The spokesperson added that in 2013, the state administration has made full arrangements for all time high procurement of 140 lakh Metric Tonnes of wheat as compared to 129.35 lakh metric tonnes acquired during the last term. The procurement firms would buy wheat at the MSP of Rs. 1350 per 100 kgs in the existing rabi period.
The state administration has allowed Pungrain 20 per cent, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation 11 per cent, FCI 20 per cent, Punsup 20 per cent, Punjab Agro Industries 9 per cent, and Markfed 20 per cent as its percentage of wheat procurement. He also said that state firms would get 112 lac metric tons and FCI would obtain 28 lac metric tons from overall wheat procurement of Punjab.
The reports also said that Patiala will also play an important role in wheat production. As per state agriculture section, around 161.59 lac metric tons of wheat fabrication was projected this year. He also said that payment would be cleared with in 48 hours and lifting with in 72 hours.

Pensioners and permanent workers of Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) staged a dharna on Tuesday (March 26) in order to mark their protest against the company management on delayed pensions and payment for the month of February.
People flayed the PRTC functionaries for their casual approach to salrary and pension payments.
The protestors also said that the management is not answering properly in this regard. They also said that they forwarded a ‘written note’ to the management, but, they haven’t replied thus far.
They said the PRTC management is accountable for arranging funds for pensions, payment of gratuities as well as PFs. We have not got pensions for the months of January and February.
“Pensions are our only hope and the single earning source for the retired people. By not releasing our funds, we are forced to survive under hugepressure. This should be blockaded by all means. Even the HC has ordered the sections concerned to make our pending payments by the 10th of each and every month at any cost,” they added,
They raised slogans against the PRTC authorities and threatened to strengthen their fight if the management failed to decide their matters.
They will continue stir till the time they receive their pensions and salaries.
